Pomodorino del Piennolo del Vesuvio, PDO since 2009, is an ancient Vesuvian crop that owes its name to the tradition of the farmers to weave the bunches of tomatoes around a string tied in a circle until they form a large bunch (the piennolo) which is then hung in a dry and ventilated space. Full of organic acids, with a fresh and acrid taste, it has a leathery skin that makes sure that the nutrients are preserved over time.
